Why join RORA?
The Royal Orchard Ratepayers’ Association (RORA) is the most effective platform for us all to participate and contribute, to ensure that planning and decision-making will support the Royal Orchard Community we want. RORA was set up to represent EVERYONE in our community – it is YOUR Association.
We urge you to support RORA in all its campaigns and initiatives to:
-
Hold Metrolinx accountable to residents impacted by the Yonge North Subway
-
Advocate for responsible, sustainable and community oriented re-development
-
Fight for community benefits from developers
-
Lobby our local governments on community priorities and concerns
-
Be a strong voice for everything in our community
-
Take care of Royal Orchard Park and our greenspaces

The City of Markham’s purchase of the nine-hectare Shouldice Property is an example of how successful our community voice and work can be. Thanks to our efforts working with our Ward 1 councillor and honorary member Keith Irish.
Our strong advocacy resulted in Metrolinx modifying the Yonge North Subway Extension route to reduce the number of Royal Orchard homes directly impacted. Our Environmental Assessment submission persuaded Metrolinx to provide more acceptable levels of noise and vibration and to install floating slab technology throughout the Royal Orchard community affected by the subway.
RORA will represent our shared interests at the City of Markham, York Regional Council and the Ontario government.
