On November 17, 2022, the Royal Orchard Community gathered to meet with key representatives from Metrolinx for an update on the Yonge North Subway Extension and how it impacts our homes, parks, schools and neighbourhood. It was a well attended event, another opportunity to meet face to face to ask questions directly regarding Metrolinx's plans and to voice our concerns about this ill-conceived and disruptive project.
Metrolinx presented their updates and welcomed questions which generated more than 80 important issues our community wanted answers to.
Highlights on the community questions included: concerns about noise and vibration, floating slab technology, the proposed Royal Orchard station, traffic disruption during the construction phase, compensation for affected homeowners, updated business case with updated cost/benefit analysis, depth and rising slope of the tunnel, tunneling spoil, transit corridor lands and the CN rail corridor.
Metrolinx took these away to review and their responses were received in April of 2023.
Our Community had the opportunity to read through what Metrolinx sent and to pose additional questions and concerns generated by Metrolinx's responses. These questions and concerns were delivered to Metrolinx in May 2023. Metrolinx has committed to preparing responses to these additional questions to present at the next Town Hall meeting, being planned for November 2023. More details to follow as a date is determined.
Together, our Community will continue to be diligent and ask important, intelligent questions to keep Metrolinx accountable. We are Royal Orchard Strong!
