Please be advised of upcoming construction work to support the Yonge North Subway Extension. This contruction work is planned to start in February and may impact travelling in the area. Metrolinx will distribute notices (attached here) to residents in the surrounding area within the next few days.
Building demolitions at Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue
February - April 2026
The southeast corner of Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue East will serve as a key site for future construction laydown space. Metrolinx has confirmed that demolitions are slated to begin in mid-February for the commercial plaza, located at 6369 Yonge Street, 6991 Yonge Street & 6995 Yonge Street.
Residents can expect to see crew activity on site in early-February, with demolitions to formally begin by mid-February with May completion. The occupants have been relocated by the Metrolinx Tenant Relocation team and the units are vacant.
Residents in the area will experience noise and vibration from machines, trucks, and other equipment while work is underway. Once demolition work is complete, the ground at the site will be filled back in and levelled. Measures will be in place to reduce dust, including spraying water and biodegradable dust suppressants. Work will be done on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with occasional weekend work.
Sidewalk access on the east side of Yonge Street and the south side of Steeles Avenue may be temporarily affected. Traffic control personnel will be present as needed to safely guide pedestrians and vehicle traffic. The alleyway behind the work area will be closed for traffic during construction. Signage will be posted to redirect pedestrians and traffic.The northbound TTC and York Region Transit bus stops along Yonge Street near Steeles Avenue will be temporarily relocated during this work. Signs will be posted at affected stops to direct riders to the new temporary stop locations.

February 2026
Steeles Avenue and Yonge Street
Connaught Avenue, west of Yonge Street.
Hendon Avenue at Duplex Avenue
Crews will be installing underground monitoring equipment and will drill holes 35 – 50 feet deep to reach bedrock. Monitoring equipment will be installed into the bedrock, and the holes will be filled and sealed with cement. Noise and vibration will be noticeable during drilling work. Work will be taking place on weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This work is expected to begin in mid February and to last one week.
One lane will be closed on Connaught Avenue, west of Yonge Street. Two on-site flaggers will control east / west traffic flow on Connaught Avenue. Signage will be in place to help drivers navigate through the construction zone safely. No anticipated pedestrian or transit impacts.

February - June 2026
8000 Yonge Street
Along Morgan Avenue, Glen Cameron Road and Yonge Street
Along Yonge Street, Steeles Avenue East, and Nipigon Avenue
To support future construction, crews will be removing trees and vegetation at three sites. Protective fencing will be installed around trees near the excavation area, where needed. Installation of fencing is expected to take place in advance of work commencing.
Short-term lane closures on Steeles Avenue East, Nipigon Avenue and Glen Cameron Road may be required to conduct tree removals.
